Approximately 17x12, oil on thin and faded canvas.

The original oils and watercolors have suffered from lack of proper care. Many have deteriorated and most are dark with tobacco stain from being displayed for years on rooms where smokers gathered.
Georges Jean Victor Pineau died after his service in World War I of exposure to mustard gas. He, like his father before him, continued to smoke a pipe even though his lungs were in very bad shape.

George was an artist and an aviator. He made a living as an aviation engineer, played the violin and painted these lovely canvases and water colors.

George married Geogette Mathilda Cotty and lived at 15 Rue Remont on the family lands. Before his death, Georgette committed suicide by hurling herself out a window. We can only assume that she could not bear the thought of living without him for even a day, though little is known of the details of their life together.
